- MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard) – Affordable, sturdy, but heavier and prone to swelling in humid areas like bathrooms and kitchens.

Louvre or ‘slat’ sizes range from 47mm – 127mm. Larger louvres (76mm–127mm) give a bold, modern look and let in more light. Smaller louvres (47mm–63mm) offer a more traditional appearance with extra privacy.
You should always consider the size of your windows and the natural light levels in each room before making your final louvre size choice.
5. Panel Configurations Explained

The way your Shutters are divided and how the panels open can have a huge impact on both the look and practicality of your windows.
- Single Panel / One per Side: Clean and minimal, perfect for smaller or symmetrical windows where simplicity suits. A single panel is known as an L or an R depending on which way it opens and a two panel Shutter would be known as an LR configuration. (One panel opens to the left and one to the right)
- Double Panels (Bi-Fold): Each side has two hinged panels that fold back neatly, great for wider windows or doors. This is what’s known as a LLRR configuration.
- Tracked Shutters: Panels which slide or fold along a track system, ideal for patio doors or full-width openings. Configurations can vary massively on these from two all the way up to eight panels. (Example for an eight panel shutter with four doors each side LLLLRRRR)
- Bay Window Shutters Layout: Custom multi-panel arrangements designed to follow the natural angles of your bay for a seamless fit. (Configurations vary however could look like this – L LR R)

- Central Tilt Rod: Traditional look and easy operation. A thin rod connected to each louvre down the full height of the Shutter panel.
- Offset Tilt Rod: Same in style as the central option, however the rod is at the side of the louvre instead of the centre.
